ApplicationsRecommended for use in bearings operating in the temperature range -10°C to 180°C.Shell Darina Grease R 2 gives good service life in many applications where expensive synthetic or silicone lubricants would otherwise be considered. The special high viscosity base oil in Shell Darina Grease R 2 makes it particularly suitable for the grease lubrication of heavily loaded slow speed bearings. With caution, Shell Darina Grease R 2 may be used at temperatures in excess of 200°C, but only so long as the Re-lubrication period is suitably adjusted.

Shell Darina Grease SD 2 is based on a non-melting bentonite clay thickener system. Due to the inert nature of the clay, this grease is suitable for applications where the lubricant is exposed to contaminants such as water and chemicals found in many industrial applications including chemical plants and paper mills. This grease is not recommended for use in centralized lubrication systems.
The mixer didn't suffer damage from this grease breakdown, thanks to the insane quantities of it that KA packs in there. They seem to hope that good grease will eventually find its way to where the bad grease is, and help keep things properly lubed. This approach isn't exactly a sound engineering principle, even if in my case it kept the mixer alive.
BTW, the Tri-Flow synthetic grease mentioned above is pretty good stuff; I've had a tube of it around for a while, mostly for road bike cables and bearings. I didn't use it in the mixer because it does have a tendency to separate. Also, Tri-flow lists the ingredients as "unknown lubricating oil," which doesn't inspire my confidence. Superlube has an informative site where they tell all. I'm planning to use it on the bike now as well. 781b155fdc
